Breast uplift surgery or ‘mastopexy’ is a surgical procedure to lift, reshape and revolumise the breasts usually in order to achieve a more youthful appearance. A breast uplift can be carried out either with or without breast implants, depending upon what final outcome you want to achieve. The use of breast implants is not essential in all cases of breast uplift surgery and I will be able to advise you on the best way to achieve the outcome you are after.
During the consultation I will ask you what it is that bothers you about the appearance of your breasts and what you would like to achieve in terms of shape and size. I will ask you about your relevant medical history which includes whether or not you take any medications. I will then examine you along with my specialist nurse and identify with you what you would like to improve upon in the appearance of your breasts. I will take specific measurements and photographs with your consent which will enable me to demonstrate to you how I think your aims and objectives can be achieved. During the consultation, I will able to show you lots of photographs of patients of mine who have had similar procedures so that you can see the range of outcomes achievable.
I carry out most breast uplift surgery under a general anaesthetic (the patient is fully asleep), and as a day case. The procedure itself takes approximately two hours. In other words, you come into hospital in the morning, have the procedure, and are then usually then able to leave the hospital later that afternoon. Before you leave, you will be asked to wear a supportive post-surgical garment which is designed to help with the healing process and I will advise you how long to wear it for and when it can be removed.
Myself and my team are always available when the need arises, but formal follow-up appointments with me are typically made at one week, 6 weeks, three months and 1 year after surgery.
No surgical procedure is without potential side effects and risks, however the risks associated with breast uplift surgery are very low in the majority of patients, and my aim is always to keep every procedure as safe as possible. I only work with the most highly trained staff and in the most reputable hospitals.
