About Dr Ahid Abood
Dr Ahid Abood is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon, trained in the world’s most advanced microsurgical techniques. He has published more than thirty-five papers in medical journals, authored a number of book chapters on cosmetic surgery, and received an M.Sc Distinction for his research into skin cancer treatment using minimal scar techniques.
Dr Abood studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and completed his medical training at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. He went on to secure a number of prestigious fellowships in the UK, US and Australia.

The Procedure
Blepharoplasty at AA Plastic Surgery London is performed under general anaesthetic. In some cases of upper eyelid surgery, only a local anaesthetic may be used.
Lower eyelid surgery involves cutting a small incision into the lower lash line. This allows Dr Abood to access the fat beneath the skin and remove excess skin at the same time. Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of skin, various amounts of fat and a small strip of muscle. The tissues are tightened and the wound is closed with stitches. A dressing will be applied and Dr Abood will assess the results and check that you are happy before he lets you go home.
Aftercare and Results
Before you leave Dr Abood’s London practice, we will arrange some follow-up appointments to take place at different time intervals post-surgery.

Dry or gritty eyes are a common occurrence among patients of blepharoplasty. This should subside within a few days. In the first 3 to 4 days the eyes need to be kept dry, after which washing your face and eyes will need to be done very carefully. In the first few weeks, swelling, bruising and tenderness is expected, as the area around the eyes is very sensitive.
To help with your recovery and manage discomfort, Dr Abood may advise you to:
- Sleep with your head propped on pillows, remaining upright to allow fluids to drain and to reduce swelling
- Wear sunglasses outside to protect your eyes from the wind and bright sunlight
- Use an ice pack to reduce swelling and soreness
The full results of blepharoplasty can usually be seen after several weeks, once the face has healed properly.

Directions
From Paddington Station, exit onto Praed Street/A4205. Head north-east and continue onto Chapel Street/A501, across the A5. Follow the A501 to Marylebone Road. Head east on Marylebone Road and turn right onto Harley Street, just before Park Crescent. The destination is at the south end of Harley Street, on the right.
From Heathrow Airport, head north to merge with the M4. Take the M4 eastbound until it joins the A4/Great West Rd. Before Hammersmith, take a left hand turning onto Rivercourt Road.
