From his London Harley Street practice, Dr Ahid Abood offers the type of eye bag removal surgery known as blepharoplasty.
As we age, fat can develop beneath the eye that causes prominent eye bags. Lumps of fat are prone to developing on the eyelid itself. Loose skin can form, often drooping from the upper eyelid and making it difficult to see.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes bulges of fat and excess skin from the delicate area around the eyes. Dr Abood can rejuvenate your appearance with this treatment, giving you a younger, fresher look with permanent results.
Dr Abood works with a small team of support staff and specialist nurses to create a private and relaxed environment for you to feel safe in. At AA Plastic Surgery London, you will be supported along every step of your decision to undergo blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty at AA Plastic Surgery, London
At his London practice, Dr Abood uses Blepharoplasty to treat:
- Droopy upper eyes
- Fat bulges in the eye area
- Bags under the lower lids
- Hanging skin on the eyelid that obscures vision
The Consultation
To determine how blepharoplasty could help you, you will need to book a private consultation with Dr Abood at his London practice. Dr Abood takes the time to understand his clients’ reasons for seeking surgery and asks in depth questions before offering his professional advice.
You are able to request further consultation sessions if you feel that you need more information. Dr Abood understands that the decision to undergo surgery is a significant one and encourages you to take as much time as you need.
Dr Abood will inquire about your medical history, as there are some medical conditions and allergies that could affect the outcome of the surgery. He will need to examine your face and eyes to determine the best way to achieve your desired results.
At consultation, you can decide whether to have blepharoplasty surgery on the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both. This will depend on the results you are hoping to achieve.
The Procedure
Blepharoplasty at AA Plastic Surgery London is performed under general anaesthetic. In some cases of upper eyelid surgery, only a local anaesthetic may be used.
Lower eyelid surgery involves cutting a small incision into the lower lash line. This allows Dr Abood to access the fat beneath the skin and remove excess skin at the same time. An external scar will remain after this surgery. Dr Abood is an expert in scar reduction techniques and can advise you on how to minimise its appearance.
A lower eyelid surgery that avoids external scarring is possible. The availability of this surgery will depend on your circumstances and whether or not you need excess skin removed.
Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of skin, various amounts of fat and a small strip of muscle. The tissues are tightened and the wound is closed with stitches. A dressing will be applied and Dr Abood will assess the results and check that you are happy before he lets you go home.
Aftercare and Results
Before you leave Dr Abood’s London practice, we will arrange some follow-up appointments to take place at different time intervals post-surgery.
Dr Abood will give you detailed aftercare instructions, but he and his staff will be available to contact if you have any questions.
Dry or gritty eyes are a common occurrence among patients of blepharoplasty. This should subside within a few days. In the first 3 to 4 days the eyes need to be kept dry, after which washing your face and eyes will need to be done very carefully. In the first few weeks, swelling, bruising and tenderness is expected, as the area around the eyes is very sensitive.
To help with your recovery and manage discomfort, Dr Abood may advise you to:
- Sleep with your head propped on pillows, remaining upright to allow fluids to drain and to reduce swelling
- Wear sunglasses outside to protect your eyes from the wind and bright sunlight
- Use an ice pack to reduce swelling and soreness
The full results of blepharoplasty can usually be seen after several weeks, once the face has healed properly.

About London
London has been a significant British settlement for over two millennia due to its key position on the River Thames. It was founded by the Romans as Londinium around 47-50 CE. It then was burned to the ground in 61 CE by Queen Boudica and the Iceni tribe; a foretelling precedent to the Great Fire of London in September 1666.
London was revived in the 9th century CE and became the largest town in England by the 11th century. William the Conqueror was crowned in Westminster Abbey in 1066 and founded the Tower of London as his primary place of governance. Parliament formed in 1215 and met in the Palace of Westminster.
Today, London is a global city and a major financial centre with strong influence on international markets. Its many attractions draw tourists from all over the globe: Kew Gardens, the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and the London Underground (the oldest rapid transit system in the world).
