Breast Implants Cambridge
At Dr Abood’s private practise in Cambridge, he offers two types of breast implant surgery: breast augmentation and breast uplift.
Breast augmentation (or enhancement) is the most common procedure for breast implants. In fact, breast uplift uses implants as a supplement and can be performed without the use of implants.
Breast augmentation is designed to enlarge the size of the breasts, making them appear more asymmetrical and proportionate to the body.
Breast uplift uses implants to enhance the size of the breasts and lift saggy breasts further up the chest.
The Consultation
The consultation phase demands no commitment on your part. You can ask for several consultation sessions before you make your decision on whether or not to undergo breast implant surgery. Dr Abood will not pressure you in any way. He wants you to be as informed as possible before you make your choice.
The consultation is the time for you to ask questions, address concerns, and get to know Dr Abood a little better. For Dr Abood, the consultation is a chance to learn your relevant medical history and understand the results you wish to achieve.
You will have the chance to examine the types of breast implant used, so that you can to get an idea of the size and shape that you would like to achieve and understand what will be put into your body.
At some point, Dr Abood will need to examine and photograph your breasts as part of his surgical planning. You will not be alone in the room; he will be accompanied by one of his nursing team and you may request to have a friend or relative with you for support.
Breast Augmentation Implants
At AA Plastic Surgery in Cambridge, breast augmentation involves the insertion of silicone implants into pockets of the breast.
You can discuss with Dr Abood the pocket that you would like the implant to be inserted into. Your choices are: below the muscle, over the muscle, or through a partial ‘over-under’ technique.
Silicone implants have gained a bad reputation in the past through malpractice, but there are far fewer risks associated with breast augmentation than people are led to believe. Any surgical procedure involves risks, but Dr Abood does not take any unnecessary risks. Nor would he recommend a surgery that would be unsafe for you.
If you are worried about silicone implants, this is something that you can discuss in detail at consultation.
Breast augmentation surgery lasts only one hour. During the procedure you will be put under general anaesthesia, meaning that you will be asleep and will not feel a thing.
To help guide him in the surgery, Dr Abood will need to take photographs and mark your breasts with pen so that he knows where to make incisions and place the implants.
Breast Uplift Implants
Breast uplift surgery is used by Dr Abood at his Cambridge clinic to correct sagging or droopy breasts; breasts that can be considered flat or empty-looking; and asymmetric breasts.
Implants are only used in this surgery if agreed by you during the consultation.
If your breasts are sagging by a large degree, you may wish to opt for implants because they will be more effective at lifting the breasts high on the chest and giving them a pert appearance.
Implants can be used in this procedure to enlarge the breasts at the same time as uplifting them.
Breast uplift surgery usually takes around 2 hours to perform and is carried out under general anaesthetic. You will be able to go home the same day as the surgery.
Aftercare and Results
Recovery from breast implants will take between 6 to 8 weeks. AA Plastic Surgery Cambridge will continue to offer support as you recover. Dr Abood will supply you with clear instructions regarding aftercare and his team will be available at any time should you need to ask questions or come and see them.
You will have a follow-up appointment one week after surgery and further check-ins at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year post implant surgery to monitor the progress of your recovery.
Scars may appear a little red and raised in the wake of the surgery, but Dr Abood will have formed them where they can be concealed and will advise on the best course of treatment. Over time they will soften and fade.
In most cases, patients report that the level of discomfort they experience from surgery is significantly less than they were expecting.
Your breasts will be swollen and tender following the implant surgery. Swelling will go down after a series of weeks. Implant surgery puts a lot of stress on the body and it can take up to 6 months for results to fully develop as swelling decreases and the implants settle into place.
We will give you appropriate pain relief medication to manage any soreness you do experience and a post-surgical bra to help you heal.
Arrange a consultation with Dr Abood to discuss whether breast implants are right for you. With his experience and expertise, Dr Abood can advise on a course of treatment that will best achieve your desired results through a method that is safe for your personal circumstances.

Facts about Cambridge
Cambridge is the county town of Cambridgeshire and is so named for its position on the River Cam. There is archaeological evidence that the settlement was established during the Bronze Age and that it developed into an important centre of trade during the Roman and Viking inhabitation of Britain.
The University of Cambridge was founded there in 1209, which makes it the world’s fourth-oldest university still in existence today. The city itself did not gain city status until 1951.
The first officiated game of football was played by university students and representatives at Parker’s Piece, Cambridge, in 1848.
Due to its prominence in academia, several international research institutes have found a base in the city. For example, Cambridge is at the centre of the high-technology Silicon Fen and hosts the Cambridge Biomedical Campus; one of the largest biomedical research clusters in the world.
Cambridge is one of the top tourist destinations in Britain due to its proximity to London, its reputation for river punting, and its elegant architecture, such as Kings College Chapel.
