What is breast uplift surgery?

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Sagging breasts

Breast uplift, otherwise known as a breast lift or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that helps to rejuvenate dropping or sagging breasts. It can help improve breast shape and  volume, so they look more youthful.

Dr Abood performs breast lift surgery in London to remove excess breast skin and rearrange existing breast tissue to help improve the shape of your breasts. This procedure will also enable your breasts to sit in a higher position and create a more harmonious balance to your body.

On top of lifting the breast tissue, breast lift surgery also involves repositioning your nipples and areolae. This will place both your breasts and nipples in a perkier position. It is also possible to use a breast lift to change the size of your areolae if they have become larger over time.

Why Consider Mastopexy?

Why do women get breast uplift surgery in London?

There are many reasons why women consider breast uplift surgery, including:

  •       To improve breast symmetry
  •       To help move your breasts and nipples to a higher position
  •       To improve breast shape after weight loss, ageing or pregnancy

What to expect from a breast lift consultation with Dr Abood

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - How we can help

Having breast lift surgery is a big decision to make. That is why it is important to have all the information about what the surgery involves and what results you might expect.

Your breast lift consultation is your opportunity to discuss what you want from surgery. This might include what size or shape you would like your breasts to be. During your consultation, Dr Abood will discuss your aims and ideals and explain how this might be achieved. He will examine your breasts and take measurements which aid in the planning of future surgery. He will also discuss any relevant medical history and medications you are taking.

Dr Abood will show you the results of previous patients who have had breast surgery. This will help to give you an idea of what you might expect. All patient results are different, so he will talk you through what you will be able to achieve from a breast uplift.

Alongside a member of his nursing team, Dr Abood will take photographs to form part of your medical record. This will support the planning of your breast lift surgery and allow him to monitor your progress after surgery.

There is no pressure to book your breast lift surgery at your consultation. In fact, Dr Abood always advises his patients to take some time to think about their decision before committing to surgery. If you have further questions to ask after your consultation, these can be answered via email, video call or a further face-to-face appointment.

What happens during a breast lift surgery in London?

Book a consultation in Harley Street, London

During a breast uplift procedure, you will be under general anaesthetic for between one to two hours. This will depend on what exactly your surgery will involve. The surgery is usually carried out as a day case, which means you will be able to go home that day.

There are several different ways to do a breast lift procedure. The most suitable approach for you will depend upon your current breast aesthetics and the aesthetics which you would like to achieve. The different types of uplift result in different scar patterns, which can be an ‘inverted T’ or anchor-shaped scar pattern; a ‘lollipop’ or vertical scar pattern and a peri-areola scar pattern (where the scar is limited to just around the areolae). Dr Abood will discuss which option will be best for you during your consultation

As part of the breast lift, Dr Abood will remove excess skin and restructure the breast tissue to help reshape your breasts. The nipples will also move to a higher position, and the size of the areolae can be made smaller to suit your reshaped breasts.

Some patients decide to have a breast augmentation (breast enlargement) as part of their breast uplift surgery. This combined procedure is called an augmentation-mastopexy, also known as an uplift with implants. This is usually a good option when patients want to significantly increase breast volume alongside improving the shape. Whether you are suitable for this will depend on the results you want to achieve and your current breast aesthetics.

AA Plastic Surgery - Our Team

At your consultation with Dr Abood, you may discuss whether having breast implants during your breast lift is right for you.

Breast lift surgery on its own is not designed to give you a larger breast size. This is why some patients decide to have a breast lift combined with a breast augmentation.

Breast implants come in different shapes and sizes. You will be able to look at, feel and try different types of breast implants at your consultation. This will give you an idea of how they will look and feel, and what size you might want to go for to achieve your desired result.

What is breast lift recovery like?

Following your breast lift surgery, Dr Abood will talk you through how the operation went and will give you advice about how to take care of your new breasts. You will only leave the hospital once Dr Abood and the team have assessed you and are happy for you to return home. This ensures that you are given enough time to recover and are comfortable enough to return home.

We will set up a one-week follow-up appointment so that Dr Abood can check up on your progress and you can ask any questions or concerns you might have. You can also contact Dr Abood and his team at any point during your recovery to seek advice or support.

Straight after your breast lift, you may feel slightly tender and swollen. This is normal following surgery, and the team will provide you with pain relief should you need it. The swelling should go down within the first four weeks of surgery. However, it can take longer for the swelling to completely subside.

We advise you to take it easy while your body is healing from breast lift surgery. The team will guide you on how to take care of your breasts and other practical things, such as when you can start showering and how much time you will need to take off work.

For the first two weeks after surgery, you should only do low-level activity. Only increase this after your body feels comfortable doing so. You will need to wear a post-surgical bra following your operation to aid recovery.

About London

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Contact

London has been a major British settlement for over two millennia, thanks to its strategic position on the River Thames. The Romans founded Londinium around 47–50 CE, only for it to be razed in 61 CE by Queen Boudica and the Iceni—an omen of the Great Fire that swept the city in September 1666.

Revived in the 9th century CE, London had grown to be England’s largest town by the 11th century. William the Conqueror was crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1066 and established the Tower of London as a seat of power. Parliament took shape in 1215, meeting at the Palace of Westminster, while Marylebone’s Harley Street later emerged as a renowned centre for private medicine.

Today, London is a global city and leading financial centre with an outsized influence on international markets, and in Marylebone, Harley Street remains a world-famous address for specialist clinics with excellent access via Oxford Circus and Regent’s Park stations. Visitors flock to its many landmarks: Kew Gardens, the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and the London Underground—the world’s oldest rapid transit system.
