A pinnaplasty, often referred to as ear pinning surgery or otoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape or reposition the ears for a more balanced and natural appearance.

Prominent or protruding ears are common and completely harmless, but for some people they can cause self-consciousness from childhood or adulthood.

Mr Abood will explain the procedure in detail, showing where small incisions will be made and how the ears will be repositioned. You’ll also discuss anaesthetic options, expected recovery, and realistic outcomes.

The Procedure

A pinnaplasty is typically carried out under local anaesthetic adults, or under general anaesthetic for younger patients. The procedure usually takes around one hours and is performed as a day case, meaning you can return home shortly after the procedure.

Mr Abood will make an incision behind each ear, carefully exposing the cartilage. Depending on your anatomy and treatment goals, one or more of the following techniques may be used:

Cartilage scoring: reshaping the cartilage to create a smoother, more natural fold.
Cartilage sparing (stitch) technique: using internal sutures to reposition the ear without cutting the cartilage.
Conchal reduction: removing a small section of cartilage if the ear protrusion is caused by an enlarged inner bowl (concha).

The incision is then closed with fine sutures, leaving a discreet scar hidden behind the ear.

Aftercare & Results

After your pinnaplasty, you’ll receive full aftercare guidance and a follow-up plan tailored to your recovery. A light head bandage is usually worn for the first few days to protect your ears and support their new position. Once removed, you may be advised to wear a soft headband at night for several weeks to maintain shape and comfort.

Most patients return to normal daily activities within a week, avoiding strenuous exercise for a little longer. Our team will check your healing progress and ensure your results are developing beautifully.

  Mr Abood was the surgeon who agreed to take me on, after months of rejections due to being deemed as too high risk.
However, Mr Abood made me feel reassured and confident going forward with the surgical procedure. I had several consultations that were never an inconvenience.

  Four weeks ago I had upper eyelid and brow lift surgery and I am absolutely delighted with the results already. Mr Abood and his team looked after me really well. So much so, I am planning to return and have my lower lids done, once my upper lids have completely healed.   I can honestly say that Mr Abood is extremely personable. He made me feel at ease from my 1st meeting with him. He explained what to expect from my surgery very well.  I never felt rushed during appointments,  I really felt reasured when I asked questions and he knew I was worried about going to London for my breast argumentation and lower blasphemy . He took time to video call me before my operations to offer reassurance .
I can not thank him more for his kindness and professionalism.
All in all I am extremely happy with the results and would definitely recommend him . I have discussed another surgery with him for later in the year . I would not choose a different surgeon,  Mr Abood and his staff are fantastic.

  I had Breast Augmentation and Uplift with Dr Abood 31st July 2024 at Weymouth Street Hospital in London. This has been the easiest and most stress free procedure I've ever had. Dr Abood and Justine are so kind and lovely, I felt totally at ease and welcome from my first appointment.
