What is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate and lift the face by elevating and tightening underlying tissues, and removing excess skin.

The result is a refreshed, natural appearance that restores youthful definition to the cheeks, jawline, and neck. Unlike non-surgical treatments, a facelift provides long-lasting structural improvements, helping to reverse visible signs of ageing while maintaining a natural look.

Dr Ahid Abood uses refined techniques to ensure minimal scarring and beautifully balanced results that complement your individual features.

A facelift can address:

  • Sagging skin around the cheeks, mouth, and jawline
  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial lines)
  • Jowls or loose skin beneath the chin
  • Loss of facial volume or definition
  • General facial laxity and ageing

A facelift by Dr Abood offers renewed confidence and a smoother, more youthful appearance.

The Consultation

Dr Ahid Abood - Your Plastic Surgery Consultation

Your facelift journey with Dr Abood, in London or Cambridge, begins with a detailed consultation with him. During this appointment, Dr Abood will take the time to listen carefully to your concerns, discuss your aesthetic goals, and answer any questions you may have.

He will assess your facial structure, skin elasticity, and medical history to determine the most suitable type of facelift – whether that’s a full facelift, mini facelift, or mid-facelift. This ensures your treatment plan is entirely bespoke to your individual needs.

You’ll receive honest, expert advice about what can be achieved, along with a clear understanding of the procedure, expected outcomes, and recovery journey.

Dr Abood’s consultations are relaxed, confidential, and focused on helping you make a fully informed decision, ensuring you feel confident, supported, and cared for from the very start of your facelift experience.

The Procedure

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Procedure

On the day of your facelift, you’ll be welcomed into Dr Abood’s modern, private facility – whether that is in London or Cambridge. The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on suitability and complexity of your planned treatment.

He will make discreet incisions, typically hidden along the hairline and around the ears, before carefully lifting and repositioning the underlying tissues. These underlying tissues are the combined layer of deeper tissues and facial muscles, called the SMAS layer (superficial musculoaponeaurotic system). During a facelift, this tissue is either elevated and tightened along it’s superficial surface using internal stitches (SMAS plication) or is elevated and repositioned as a single ‘sheet’, known as a deep-plane facelift. Any excess skin is then removed to create a naturally firmer, smoother appearance. The aim is to rejuvenate your features without changing your natural expressions – producing elegant results that look entirely your own.

Dr Abood and his team pride themselves on providing exceptional care in a calm, comfortable environment. From your arrival to your recovery, Dr Abood’s hand-picked team ensures you feel fully supported and at ease throughout every stage of your facelift journey.

Aftercare & Results

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Aftercare

After your facelift Dr Abood and his expert team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery and help you achieve the best possible results. You’ll be encouraged to take time to rest and follow your personalised care plan, which will include attending follow-up appointments so your progress can be monitored.

Over the following weeks, the skin will gently settle as your new contours become more refined. Most patients begin to notice visible improvements within a few weeks, with results continuing to enhance as healing progresses.

The outcome is a refreshed, naturally youthful appearance that can last for many years, helping you look as vibrant as you feel.

Dr Abood and his team are committed to ensuring you enjoy not just excellent aesthetic results, but also a confident, positive experience from beginning to end.

Related FAQs

How long does a facelift procedure take?

A facelift typically takes between two and four hours, depending on the complexity of the surgery and whether additional procedures, such as a neck lift, are performed at the same time. Dr Abood will discuss the expected timeframe with you before your treatment.

What is a deep plane facelift?

A deep plane facelift is an advanced facelifting technique which elevates the deeper tissues and muscles (knows as the SMAS layer) as a single unit and separately from the skin. The focus is on the repositioning of these deeper tissues rather than simply removing excess skin.

When will I see my results?

Initial improvements can usually be seen after a few weeks, once swelling begins to subside. Your final results will become more defined over several months, revealing a naturally lifted and refreshed appearance that continues to improve as healing progresses.

How long do facelift results last?

The longevity of facelift results will vary depending upon the type of facelift you’ve had and your pre-existing skin and tissue characteristics. While the natural ageing process continues, many patients enjoy long-lasting rejuvenation and choose to maintain their appearance with skincare and non-surgical treatments.

Is a facelift suitable for both men and women?

Facelift surgery is suitable for both men and women seeking to reduce sagging skin, deep lines, or jowls. Dr Abood tailors each treatment to the patient’s facial anatomy and aesthetic goals, ensuring results that look natural and harmonious.

Why choose Dr Ahid Abood?
