What is Mummy Makeover?

A Mummy Makeover involves a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to help restore a women’s body after changes from pregnancy and childbirth.

A typical Mummy Makeover may include procedures such as tummy tuck, breast lift or breast augmentation, liposuction, and other body contouring procedures.    The specific procedures included in a Mummy Makeover can vary based on individual needs and goals.   If you are opting for one or more procedures to restore or improve your body following pregnancy and childbirth and have completed your family, a tailored Mummy Makeover package may be a good option for you.

The Consultation

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Your Consultation

Prior to your face-to-face consultation with me I will usually see you for an initial complimentary video consultation. This is a convenient way to make sure that you are a suitable candidate for surgery before moving forward to the ‘face to face’ appointment. The face-to-face consultation can take place at ether our London or Cambridge clinics and is intended to be a relaxed, welcoming setting that will put you at ease and encourage you to openly discuss the concerns about your body along with your goals.

The face-to-face consultation can take up to an hour and during the appointment a comprehensive medical history  and examination will be carried. You are welcome to bring along a friend or member of your family if you wish and nurse chaperone can also be present during the appointment. Medical photographs will be taken, which are used as a record of your progress and help to plan your surgery. These are stored in your confidential medical records.

Having had many years of experience undertaking Mummy Makeovers, I am well-placed to recommend which procedures will best enable you to achieve your desired outcomes.   You will have the opportunity to ask any questions at this point and I will discuss the potential risks and expected outcomes of each procedure.

The consultation helps me to get a clear understanding of your concerns and enables me to put together a tailored package to address your individual needs.    As undertaking this type of surgery is a big decision, I always offer a minimum of two consultations prior to surgery.  This gives you time to reflect on the information I have given you and address any further concerns or worries you may have.

The Procedure

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Procedure

The mummy-makeover procedure is a combined procedure which frequently involves surgery to the breasts and the abdomen. Both selected procedures are  usually carried out at the same time. Some common procedures included in a mummy makeover are:

1. Breast augmentation: This procedure involves the placement of implants to enhance the size and shape of the breasts, which may have lost volume or sagged after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

2. Breast lift: Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift is performed to lift and reshape sagging breasts. It can restore a more youthful and perky appearance to the breasts. Sometimes, a breast lift is carried out at the same time as breast augmentation. If done together, this is called an augmentation-mastopexy.

3. Tummy tuck: Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area, tightens the underlying muscles, and creates a flatter and more toned abdomen. It can address the stretched and loose skin that often occurs after pregnancy. Frequently, a tummy tuck is combined with liposuction. If carried out together, this is called a lipo-abdominoplasty.

4. Liposuction: Liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, or buttocks. It can help contour and reshape areas that may have accumulated stubborn fat deposits during pregnancy.

Aftercare & Results

Ahid Abood Plastic Surgery - Aftercare

Following your surgery, you will usually stay in hospital for one night. During your stay you will be looked after by experienced specialist nurses that will make sure you are comfortable and have everything that you need. In the morning after your surgery, I will come and check on you before you go home and answer any questions that you may have. Before you go home, you will be given information about the ‘do’s and don’t’s’ in the first few days and weeks following surgery.

My nursing staff and I are always available to address any concerns and your recovery will be closely monitored through a series of follow-up appointments, typically made at 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months and 1 year after surgery.

It is expected that you will be up and about from the first day of your surgery, but it can take a few weeks before you are fully back to your usual everyday routines and activities.

It is likely that you will need to take some time off work and to gradually increase your activity levels until your body feels comfortable to move around more easily. Although you will see an immediate result following surgery, the outcome may not be visible for several weeks as the swelling takes time to resolve.
